BRACKENLEA CARE HOME - WINCHESTER

Although mere minutes from the centre of Shawford, Brackenlea fits snugly into its quiet, rural setting. We endeavour to have these relaxing surroundings inform the care we provide, and aided by our exquisite Edwardian frontage, we are proud to offer a home that chimes so well with our overall caring ethos. In Brackenlea, we will support you however we can when you make your home with us.

The interior design of Brackenlea emphasises both space, enabling ease of movement, and light, with high-ceilings and large, well-placed windows. The original features of the house, including our beautiful conservatory, serve to create an environment of serenity and relaxation.

Who we care for

Brackenlea is a 25 bed residential care home. We provide the basic day-to-day support to keep you independent, safe and happy.  Our carers are our greatest asset; each member of staff, from our manager to our chefs, are here to provide a holistic range of care experiences. We mainly provide care for elderly clients, although exceptions can be made. Specifically, we can care for those who need help with:

  • Physical or mental disabilities
  • Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease
  • Day-to-day care support – including cleaning and laundry.

Although they come fully-furnished, we welcome and encourage our clients to really make these spaces their own. As is, each sizeable room contains washing facilities, personal furniture and plenty of space for storage.

Brackenlea boasts a range of communal spaces, including:

  • The lounges – filled with comfy chairs, sofas and a TV, the sitting rooms are the perfect place to relax.
  • The dining room – fresh-cooked meals are served daily in our specially designed dining suite.

The Garden

Our large walled garden is a secure place to enjoy the surrounding countryside. Plenty of patio furniture is dotted about our broad lawns.

Brackenlea is a beautiful building, but the heart of the home is the family of residents and carers that fill it. Always busy, our activities managers run events, games, shows and parties six days a week, always making sure to balance fun with relaxation. We are always open to visitors and families, whether they are coming just for a quick visit or spending the day with you.

Most of all, we want you to treat Brackenlea as your home. As such, we have fostered relationships with the local GP, who visits once a week; a local hairdresser who visits once a month (for an extra cost); and the chiropodist (for an extra cost).

Care and Support

At Brackenlea, we believe that you should be at the centre of your care. You know your needs and wants better than anyone, and it is our mission to ensure that they are accommodated to your satisfaction. Our staff are all specialists in elderly and dementia care, and always work to further your needs and wants. The best way we can do this is by listening to you and adapting to your requests an opinions. More broadly, we provide care for:

  • Short-term respite care
  • Long-term residential support

Residential Care

Residential Care Homes provide accommodation, meals, laundry services, and personal care to residents (assistance with washing, bathing, toileting, etc). This is ideal for those who are not able to cope at home or would appreciate the social network and support that our care facilities provide. The minimum age for admission is 65; however, some homes may admit residents younger than that. Check with the individual home to see if it is registered to do so.

Respite Care

Respite Care refers to short term care, quite often for 1 – 4 weeks. This type of care often allows primary care givers to have a break or assures that care is given whilst there is no care giver available. Some of our homes have dedicated respite rooms whilst others will offer it if a room is vacant. This service is offered in both our Nursing Homes and our Residential Homes.
