National Day of Reflection

National Day of Reflection

This year, our homes in Brookvale Healthcare took part in the Hampshire Care Association’s Day of Reflection to mark a year since the first lockdown in the UK. All homes were encouraged to take part in the one-minute silence at Noon, and participate in an afternoon at 3 pm.

Brookvale House

Brookvale House Care Home took the opportunity one year on from the first UK lockdown to give back to the wonderful team at Waitrose, Portswood. The staff at Waitrose supported Brookvale House throughout the year by donating various things to keep our residents active and occupied.

A cake was presented by the management team at Brookvale House. Thank you to the team at Waitrose, Portswood!

Later on, in the afternoon, the residents enjoyed an afternoon tea to mark the commemorative day.

Beechwood House

Beechwood House also honoured the day, starting with reflective cards made by the residents, a minute’s silence at noon and an afternoon tea at 3 pm.

Cross Way House

The Day of Reflection was marked at Cross Way House by the planting of seeds, to mark new beginnings and to remember those who lost their fight against COVID.

An afternoon tea was also held, and everyone present took the opportunity to reflect and thank others for their dedication and commitment to care.

During the 3pm afternoon tea, Residents and staff enjoyed dancing with pompoms and celebrated the success, achievements, and safety of all at Cross Way House.

Mary Rose Manor

The residents participated in a Day of Reflection to mark a year passing since Covid began.

While Mary Rose Manor did not want to dwell on the negative, or bring the moods of our residents down, it was important to mark the day and encourage residents to reflect on the hardships of the previous year whilst looking forward and ahead to the next. It is important to encourage open discussion about the feelings or emotions that everyone has to deal with events and be able to move onwards.

All at Mary Rose Manor held a minute’s silence around the home, allowing time in peace to collect our thoughts and think of those sadly no longer with us.

Residents were invited to write their feelings or emotions on a cut out of a cloud and a sunrise was created to symbolise hope and brightness to come. This has been displayed in the lounge.

Residents and staff were also invited to tie yellow ribbons in the garden area, as signs of prayer, remembrance, and support. Many braved the chill in the air to tie a ribbon, and to take a moment of reflection. The garden now has beautiful streams of yellow blowing in the breeze.

Brookvale Head Office

At the Head Office, we had the chance to reflect on how hard our Homes had worked throughout the pandemic, and how life changing the last year had been. We also participated in the one-minute silence to remember those who we had lost to COVID. We also held a small afternoon tea and took a few moments to speak about how the pandemic had impacted our lives.
