Mary Rose Manor – May Activities

The month of May saw a variety of activities taking place around our home.

It was a busy month for birthdays, both for residents and their families and our residents were supported in celebrating their special days.

One of our residents enjoyed a pamper morning in the salon on her birthday, with a hair treatment and curled style to make her feel special on her birthday.

Another one of our residents wanted to celebrate her daughter’s birthday by decorating a cake for her and decorate she did! The sugar filled, brightly iced cake was very well received.

The Interactive Sensory Table has been popular amongst residents this month, attracting new users. The realistic water pool apps were favourites during May, with water rippling over pebbles creating a very calm and serene sensory experience. The ‘Bubble Catch’ app is a close second with its bright contrasting colours and realistic ‘pop’ sounds.

Our residents have enjoyed a variety of physical games and sports this month as we warm up to Summer.

Group games of skittles are always great fun attracting many eager bowlers and is brilliant for social interaction. Balloon games continue to be very popular with our residents and is a great way of exercising and keeping spirits high.

Our magnetic dartboard was a huge success, with many budding darts players enjoying a simpler, more achievable version of the sport. We were able to adapt this activity to become more cognitive by encouraging residents (and staff!) to add up their scores.

It’s been a ‘crafty’ month at Mary Rose Manor with residents enjoying using various craft materials and having fun getting messy! From finger painting to simple colouring and fake flower arranging, these exercises get the creative juices flowing.

We were more fortunate during the earlier part of May with the British Weather, and hope to hold many more activities in our beautiful garden as the sun puts its hat on for the summer!
